Melvin grew up in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where
nearly 20% of the population live in poverty. This poverty led to severe hunger
for thousands of families in the city, especially children who were totally
reliant on school lunches for their daily nourishment. Melvin witnessed
firsthand the struggle that these kids faced during breaks from school when
meals were not easily accessible. This problem plagues most major cities in the
US, including Los Angeles. When he got to the NFL, Melvin started his own
foundation to address this very problem.
